Coriander Seeds Decoction for a Heavy Menstrual Flow

Today is day 2 of my period. I have an excessive bleeding that caused lower back pain (7/10), lower abdomen pain (4-5/10), and right leg pain(3-4/10). I can describe the lower back pain as being hit with a baseball bat over and over again. It felt like my lower back was going to break. I took ibuprofen in the morning, but after one hour it didn’t relieve the pain at all. I cried 😭😭😭

I texted my doctor to update my symptoms today. She called me, told me to take some of my Ayurvedic medicines and also to make decoction from coriander seeds and a cup of water. What I need was

1 tbsp of coriander seeds (I use coriander seed powder) + 1 cup of water

Boil it with medium heat until only half cup left, for about 8-10 minutes. Drink whilst it warms.

The question is why coriander seeds?

Coriander seeds contain natural stimulants that stimulate your endocrine glands to secrete and maintain proper hormone balance, which ensures that the associated pain with the cycle is reduced, and excess flow is alleviated

This source also mentioned a different way to make a coriander seeds decoction:

What You Need

6 g coriander seeds

1 teaspoon of sugar

1 liter water

What You Have To Do

Boil 6 grams of coriander seeds in half a liter of water.

Add a teaspoon of sugar when the water has been reduced to half.

Drink the mixture while it is still warm.

How Often Should You Use It

This mixture should be consumed thrice a day daily.

I didn’t use sugar or honey at all in my decoction, it tasted so awful. I almost puke 🤢 So, my advice is to add a little bit of honey to kill the odd taste.

After about an hour my lower back pain has lessen to 3-4/10, lower abdomen pain has down to 2-3/10, and the leg pain has gone. The bleeding has been less heavy. So it works, yay! 😍

It’s Day 16 of my cycle. I just started my Ramadan fasting today. I tried on day 9, but I was in pain so I broke it. I decided to wait until I feel fit and that day is today. I have 8 days before my next cycle so I think that will be how many days I could fast this year.

It breaks my heart 💔 but I have to accept the reality and respect my body. I will be very grateful if I could make it for the next 8 days.

I have started to do yoga yesterday. The goal is to do it everyday just like before. My body has accumulated more fat on my belly, I will try my best to get rid of it and be healthier!

Yoga day 2: done!

Fasting update:

I made it until iftar. The first day was quite easy. I barely feel hungry, just my mouth felt dry.

Tomorrow will be more challenging, I will need to continue cleaning the new apartment. Ganbarimasu!

New Medicine

I love the medicine colors! It makes me forget that I take that because I have a chronic pain! 😆😆😆

– May Cycle Day 10 –

After what happened yesterday, I decided to postpone my fast until my painful period has passed. I should respect my body and try again in a couple days or maybe tomorrow 😁

My Ayurvedic medicine has arrived yesterday evening. My doctor prescribed a slightly different medicine this time. She gave me special medicine that should be taken when I’m bleeding. I checked on the ingredients, it’s prescribed to boost hemoglobin and red blood cells production and anti inflammatory. I’ll talk more about the details of my medicine in different post.

Me and my husband moving to a new apartment soon. I have to check the new apartment today. I need to install a shower curtain, that’s why I need to measure the bathroom to make sure I get the right size. I also need to start to clean the apartment tomorrow 😖😖😖

I hope my uterus be kind to me today 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

Pain… pain… go away… comes again some other day!

May PD3

It’s day 3 of my period. I woke up at 1am because I felt so much pain on my lower back. I felt like somebody hit my lower back with baseball bat over and over again. I had cramps, it wasn’t the worst and I felt nauseous.

I took ibuprofen around 3:30am. Watched Family Guy so I can distract the pain while waiting the ibuprofen working. I fell asleep after a couple episodes and then woke up around 7am because of another series of pain.

I made honey lemon water, for detox. I had to wait for 30 minutes before I took ibuprofen with rice porridge that I bought last night. The pain was severe, especially the lower back pain. I could only cry while waiting the ibuprofen to react. I ordered papaya takeaway. I know it will help to reduce the inflammation. But I had to wait for 30 minutes for the delivery. When you’re in so much pain, even 30 minutes feels like forever.

It’s 10:18 now. The ibuprofen had been reacting, the pain level had decreased from 7 to 3/4. I also just ate my papaya, I don’t feel nauseous anymore.

My body’s feels so sore from the pain. I bleed so much, I felt that I have no energy. I don’t have any iron supplements, I might need to get a supply.

I feel so tired and beaten. This disease got me good. I need to get some rest.

Adenomyosis Journal: Dec 2016 – Apr 2017

On December 2016 I decided to start eating clean / do endo diet. My doctor told me I have to change my diet to lower the pain level. It’s not an easy road for me. There are sometimes that I slipped and eat the inflammatory food more than what my doctor allowed, which is once a week.

I started to track my food and ibuprofen intake on December 2016. I also tracked my pain level so I can conclude what is the relationship between my food and my pain level.

Sneak peek of my journal:

Adenomyosis Journal – December 2016
Dec 2016 – 16 pain free days, 15 painful days, ibuprofen taken 25*200mg, pain level range: 1-8

It has been almost 5 months since I started my endo diet. The highest pain level has lowered from 8 to 5. My best performance was on March, I only took 7 ibuprofen in 1 cycle with highest pain level 5/10 and only 9 painful days.

At the end of March I slipped, I drank dairy several times, I ate wheat bread, and I ate fishes more than I should be. On early April I did the same mistakes. The result was I had 11 painful days with 19 ibuprofen was taken. From 7 ibuprofen back to 19. We can see how significant the effect of dairy and fish to my body.

At the fourth week of April I did another stupid things, I ate duck meat three times in a week. I also ate a bunch of sweet peanuts snack. I know I will pay for this on my end of April – May cycle 😖

As you can see, the endo diet actually works to lessen the pain. The problem was me, I’ve been unable to keep on track.

I liked it when I didn’t have to take so many ibuprofen.  I liked it when I have less pain. But it’s so hard to be consistent😞

I’m not giving up yet, I will try again. I will do better this month!

The pain is here, let’s walk it out

I started to feel slight cramps on my lower abdomen last night. I took 1 (200mg) ibuprofen so I could sleep. Yesterday was 4 days before my next period. I started to feel anxious. I think my condition is getting worse because my cycle is getting shorter.

I’m tired to feel anxious every day when it’s almost my period time. I’m tired with the pain. I’m loosing my confident, I’m loosing my freedom. My confident and freedom to go out anytime without the fear that I will have sudden cramps and leave me stuck outside the house with so much pain.

My uterus started to swollen last night, I know it’s coming soon. The pain is here… not the worst but it’s here.

I’m going to walk to groceries store now, it will be about 2.5km. I want to face my fear. But with preparation of course, some Ibuprofen and Swiss rolls in my bag, just in case I lost this battle and have to squat in pain in the middle of the road. God, please give me strength🙏🏼

So, I successfully walked to the groceries shop. In 10 minutes after I started to walk ,the pain escalated. I ate a protein bar and 1 (200mg) ibuprofen — I can’t take ibuprofen without food, it hurts my stomach–. I kept walking although I was in pain.

I finished my groceries shopping but the pain is getting worse, I feel like I’m going to faint. So I’ll sit here for a moment while waiting the ibuprofen reacting. There’s KFC downstairs where I can hang out, but really what can I eat there?

Pain… Pain… Go away, come again another day 😔😔😔
