Traveling and Inflammatory Food

I’m traveling to Xi’an for dentist appointment and meeting an old friend. I left the apartment at 5am, I felt tired. When I arrived at the boarding gate, the announcement board have mentioned that it was a last call for my flight πŸ˜†

I landed around 9am. I took an airport bus to go downtown. I arrived at downtown around 11am. I felt super hungry, so I went to Starbucks with assumption they would have salad. The other restaurants around are mostly selling chicken fast food or spicy noodles. I always have problem finding a restaurant where I can eat non inflammatory food when traveling…

Surprisingly Starbucks doesn’t have vegetable salad today. Only sandwiches, cakes, and fruit salad. I will order the fruit salad if it doesn’t have watermelon in it. My stomach doesn’t like watermelon, it always feel upset after I eat it. I just don’t know why.

I ended up ordering green tea latte and  tuna and egg salad. It’s good πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹

Green tea latte with cinnamon, it has dairy in it, and its sweet. Anti inflammatory + inflammatory = neutral? Hopefully!!! I feel nervous 😩

Wheat bread + tunas + eggs = mostly inflammatory. My body, please be kind to me this time πŸ™πŸΌπŸ™πŸΌπŸ™πŸΌ

I keep doing math when I eat inflammatory food. The idea is to eat more anti inflammatory food when you eat inflammatory food at the same time. It’s experimental, I’m my own lab rat πŸ˜†

Let’s see in few hours what is going to happen 😳

Update:

1.5 hours later – my stomach feel gassy, oh… it’s the milk 😩

Night Pain

It’s 3:45 am. I have been waking up since 2 am. I’m in pain, back pain and lower abdomen pain. Even a level 4 pain could feel so painful in the middle of the night like this. I just took an ibuprofen. I still need to wait until it’s reacting so I can go back to sleep. Meanwhile I will try to manage the pain as much as possible πŸ˜”

Breathe…

4:20 am

I’m still awake. The pain has been decreasing a little.

Josh Groban and Linkin Park are singing for me 🎢

My hot water bags are comforting me πŸ™πŸΌ

My cat woke up for awhile accompanied me. My husband woke up for a sec, rubbed my belly and then hold my hand while went back to sleep.

Although I’m in pain, I still have things to be grateful for.

Life is good.

4:50 am

The pain down to 2/10.

I’m feeling sleepy, that’s good.. I think I will fall asleep soon. Just need to warming up one of my water bag one more time.

Good night… or… good morning…

March PD2: Miracle Day

Day 2

Total ibuprofen taken: 1

Symptoms: Heavy bleeding, Back pain (2-4/10), Lower abdomen pain (1/10)

Last cycle I took 4×200 mg ibuprofen on day 2. I had heavy bleeding, back pain (2-3/10), cramps (4-5/10), and nauseous.

I’m down from 4 to 1 ibuprofen. For me that’s a miracle! The endo diet works, the Ayurvedic medicines and supplements work. I’m very grateful!!! πŸ™πŸΌπŸ™πŸΌπŸ™πŸΌ

March PD1

Day 1

Total ibuprofen taken: 0

I decided to make my swelly belly picture as an art piece πŸ˜†πŸ˜†πŸ˜†

Period day 1 was quite easy. Other than my swelly belly, nothing really obvious happened. I had lower back pain (1/10) and lower abdomen pain (1/10). No ibuprofen taken. I toughened it up!

Last cycle I took 1 ibuprofen on day 1. A good progress 😊

Japanese Matcha

I like green tea. It’s started when I drank my first green tea latte, after that I started to like any kind of green tea, from green tea leaves to green tea powder or matcha.

To be honest I don’t really care about the quality of the tea until recently. I normally buy green tea leaves from local supermarket. 1 bag of 100 grams lasts forever πŸ˜† I also bought matcha powder long time ago. It was a Chinese matcha, i bought 1 can of 100 grams powder for $3.61, they sent me another can. So practically it was 3 dollars for two cans. I didn’t really like the taste, I seldom drank it and ended up threw it.

Cheap Chinese Matcha
A couple days ago I ordered a Japanese Matcha on Taobao. It’s quite expensive compared to the Chinese Matcha. It cost me $8.69 for 40 grams can.

No, it’s not a ceremonial grade matcha (I heard they are really good, I’ve never had one because it’s super expensive 😬).

I just made a glass of green tea with one teaspoon of raw honey. I don’t know how they did it, but it tastes so good! πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹

Green tea have some benefits for your health, such as lower the risks of some types of cancer, heart dissease, lower cholesterol, reduce risks of stroke, lower the risk of type 2 diabetes, weight loss, hold promise as a new treatment for skin diseases, enhance our brain’s cognitive function, and might help to reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s disease.

If you are on certain medications, check on the precautions and risks section on page 3.

If you decided to buy green tea (leaves or powder), buy a good quality green tea, don’t do what I did 😬 Happy tea-ing! πŸ΅πŸ™ŒπŸΌ

Adeno Belly

People who are living with Adenomyosis usually have what we call “Adeno Belly”. You will look like you’re pregnant but you are not.

I always have a big belly since I was young although my body is skinny. I thought that is a genetic factor because my mom also has the same belly. My mom said that some people are naturally have “weteng kendil” or “pot belly”, it means these people will never have a flat belly, just like they have a small pot in their belly 😳 I grew up believing that it’s normal, and I’m one of those people, until I joined the Adenomyosis support group.

Most of the ladies say that they look pregnant because their bellies are bigger than normal people’s belly. I noticed that the more severe the condition is the bigger the Adeno belly they have. It’s sad isn’t?

I’m trying to understand the logic behind this Adeno belly. One of the symptoms of Adenomyosis is a boggy uterus, it means the uterus size of people with Adeno is much bigger than the normal uterus size. The normal uterus size for a person before attaining puberty is 3.5cm x 1cm (length and anteroposterior diameter), after puberty is 7.6cm x 4.5cm x 3cm (length, width, thickness). The volume keeps changing depending on the menstrual cycle from 75cc to 200cc. My uterus size as per October 2016 is 7.8cm x 6.8cmx 7.8cm, it was 7cm x 6.1cm x 6.9cm on April 2016. Yes, it’s getting bigger! And I’m not happy about it 😩

So why the uterus becomes enlarged? The endometrium tissues implants in to the uterine wall causes inflammation. Yes, our uterus are in an inflammatory state all the time, that’s why it’s bigger.

Every time we get our menstruation, our uterus is Inflamed, that’s normal. And Every time we eat inflammatory food, we make this inflammation getting worse. And for people with Adeno, you can see the result in couple hours.

On Wednesday night, I ate sushi for dinner.

As you can see, the only non vegetarian thing I ate was salmon. FYI, salmon is high in Omega-3 which means it’s anti inflammatory. But why the next day my belly turned into this?

I felt very bloated. I also felt tightness on my lower abdomen. I didn’t eat anything inflammatory that night, as far as I know. So why this was happening?

I tried so hard to track what I ate and drank that day. What did I do wrong? Then I see the sushi picture again. Did you see the yellow thingy on top of the avocados and grilled salmons? Yes, that was mayonnaise!

So what’s wrong with mayonnaise? Commercial mayonnaise is made from soybean oil, corn oil, or other vegetable oil that contains omega-6. Too much omega-6 in our body can cause inflammation. It also contains sugar, which means more trigger for inflammation! Don’t forget about the artificial ingredients such as preservatives, additives, and monosodium glutamate (MSG)! 😱😱😱Don’t worry, you still can eat mayonnaise if you wanted. You just need to make homemade mayonnaise for healthier options πŸ˜‰

Back to my Adeno belly. So, mayonnaise is the only inflammatory food that I ate that night. And as you can see, the effect is real! Adenomyosis is a real deal!

The more you listened to your body, the more you understand about it. We, people with Adenomyosis have uterus that in inflammatory state every single day. We need to help ourselves to lower our uterus’ suffering. I’m not sure how to get rid off our Adeno belly as long as we still have Adenomyosis, but at least I will try not to make it getting worse… So, let’s do it together! πŸ˜ŠπŸ™ŒπŸΌπŸ’ͺ🏻
